The Freight

A study in contrast.Small Vaipaee on Ua Huka makes Arnaui Day into market day with kitchen tables on the pier and barbeques. Very little freight is being loaded and unloaded. The pier is tiny at the end of a deep canyon. The Aranui turns on one spot before it reaches the end.In Atuona on Hiva Oa, no inhabitant cares whether the passengers are here or not. It's all about the freight. The pier is bustling, air conditioned containers are opened and fresh fruit is loaded for the Aranui kitchen. In some smaller ports, limes are the only export, used in the bar of the Aranui.
