The Old Religion

The old religion had temple platforms with tikis, the largest of which are preserved in the Puanao Valley on Hiva Oa. The only larger tikis can be found on Easter Island: Rapanui. These platforms have original tikis. The other stone carvings found around the islands are usually modern statues in the old style that has become popular again with the renewed interest in the old culture.Carved wooden tikis were placed on this platform during the Cultural Festival on Nuku Hiva.Petroglyphs on a rock above the platform near the Banjan tree. The tree was used as a repository for the skulls of important chiefs and priests.Modern rendition of a tiki in the cathedral's courtyard in Taiohae.
